How to Prepare for Mensa IQ Test?

The Mensa IQ test is the most renowned IQ test. Mensa has a community of members who claim high rate of intelligence. Getting a Mensa membership is considered prestigious as only the top 2% of the test takers are granted the membership. Mensa was founded by Australian barrister Roland Berrill and British scientist Dr. Lancelot Ware with the idea of forming a society of bright people, the only criteria of membership being a high IQ.

Where to take the IQ test?
Mensa has the regional offices in about 50 countries which conduct the Mensa IQ test. Taking into consideration the diversity of cultural backgrounds, Mensa has developed different tests for different countries. Mensa only tests those who are over 14 years of age. It provides a computer-based IQ test called Mensa Workout which is like a practice test. To take a proctored Mensa IQ test, you have to make an appointment with your local group.

How to Prepare?
The Mensa workout can provide you with a good practice and give you an idea of the IQ test. You can also take free IQ tests available online as a warmer.

The Mensa IQ test has multiple choice questions which test you in different disciplines like verbal, mathematical, spatial, analytical skills. Taking online IQ test can help you identify your weak areas. Once you identify them you can try to improve upon them. You can also opt for the home study material provided by Mensa which has been found to increase Mensa IQ score by 10-25 points. Mensa also provides a pre-test which can be taken at home. You need to send it back to Mensa for scoring. If you score high enough you will be invited by Mensa to sit for the supervised qualifying test.

As in most IQ tests, time is a very important factor in Mensa IQ test. Hence taking a long time to answer questions can cause a dip in your IQ score, even if you answer them all correctly.

The questions have to be solved mentally. You are not allowed to use pencil or paper to workout the problems. If you find a question difficult, do not waste your time. Mark it to come back later on and move on to the next one.
